Dendritic Print Circles

In my latest workshop, Journaling Dina Wakley Style for Stampers Grove, I shared a bonus technique with the class which works great with Dina inspired journal pages. Dendritic printing is one of the easiest techniques you will ever use. I first learnt about this fun printing technique at one of Tracy Scott‘s classes. It can be used in lots of different ways to create interesting backgrounds but my favorite way of using it is to create lots of circles for collage. It is a bit addictive, so you will likely create lots in one sitting.

List of Supplies

  • Acrylic Paint (I like it best with heavier bodied paint like Dina Wakley’s)
  • Paper/ Journal Page/ Collage Paper
  • 2 x Stamp Blocks (I think it works best with thin stamp blocks)

This is a super easy technique which looks very intricate but couldn’t be simpler.

1- Squeeze a small dot of paint on to one of the stamp blocks.

2- Place the second block on top and press the two together firmly.

3- Peel the two plates apart without sliding then against each other. If they are stuck together, try gently prying them apart with a pallet knife.

4- Place your paper or journal page on top of the paint splodge. Gently run your finger over the back of the paper and then lift it off of your block.

Do the same to lift the paint on your second block. Ta Da! You now have two dendritic print circles.

I have created a super short real time video tutorial to show you how easy and quick it is.

You can use your dendritic prints in lots of different ways. I like to have a selection on hand in different colours so I can match them up with my journal pages and use them as collage element to add a pop of interest. I have recently created a page using loats of dendritic circles. Stay tuned to see it in a post coming soon.
